Turn the project constraint into a reviewable input set.

If crane information arrives after the building geometry is fixed, the project may face avoidable conflicts between hook coverage, clear height, columns, roof bracing, services and maintenance access. Unknown crane data should be listed as pending and assigned to the responsible supplier.

    Crane supplier information

    Share the supplier drawing or data sheet when available. Keep nominal capacity separate from reactions and other engineering inputs.

    Quantity, capacity and operating zones

    Record each crane, the bay it serves and whether cranes may operate near one another or transfer loads between zones.

  3. 03

    Hook height and vertical envelope

    Define the required lifting height, hook approach limits and space for the bridge, trolley, runway and roof-level services.

  4. 04

    Operating frequency and process conditions

    Describe expected use, shift pattern and any special process condition for supplier and engineering review; do not invent a duty classification.

    Runway and end interfaces

    Identify known rail, beam, bracket, end-stop, access-platform and electrification responsibilities, together with supplier tolerances.

  6. 06

    Maintenance, installation and future change

    Allow for component delivery, crane installation, inspection access, replacement and any future crane or capacity change.

    Record who supplies, designs, installs and checks the crane, runway, electrification and related building work.

Keep each decision conditional and project-specific.

What crane information should be sent first?+

Send quantity, nominal capacity, required lifting height, operating bay and supplier information. Add drawings and reactions when the supplier issues them.

Can the crane be selected after the workshop frame?+

Late selection can create conflicts. Include the expected crane and clearances early, even when some supplier data remains pending.

Does crane capacity determine hook height?+

No. Capacity and lifting height are separate inputs, and the usable hook coverage also depends on crane geometry and the building interfaces.

Who designs the runway?+

That responsibility must be explicitly assigned for the project. Do not assume it from the crane purchase or steel-building supply description.
