Solution 03 / Location-specific design basis

Wind, Snow & Seismic Design Inputs for Steel Buildings

Anchor every load input to the exact project location, its approved source and the applicable engineering basis.

Planning context

Turn the project constraint into a reviewable input set.

A location name alone may not resolve elevation, terrain exposure, topography, snow conditions or seismic parameters. A reliable input register preserves the source, date, units and review status so the engineering team does not mistake an early assumption for an approved criterion.

  • What is the exact site location and elevation information available?
  • Which authority, code or project specification controls?
  • Who supplied each wind, snow and seismic value?
  • Which terrain, topography or site conditions need local review?

Six inputs to prepare

Record confirmed values, sources and open questions separately.

  1. 01

    Exact site identity

Provide country, region, city and a precise project location or coordinates when public and approved. Add site elevation information when available.

  2. 02

    Applicable authority and code basis

Record the customer, consultant or local authority source. Do not combine parameters from unrelated codes.

  3. 03

    Wind information

Provide the approved wind parameter, units, return-period or category information when supplied, plus terrain or topographic notes that the responsible engineer requests.

  4. 04

    Snow information

State whether snow review is required and provide the approved ground or roof-related criteria only when their source and units are known.

  5. 05

    Seismic information

Record the parameters or local engineering brief supplied for the site. Avoid converting a general regional description into a final design value.

  6. 06

    Site and building context

Include use, importance requirements when specified, building geometry, adjacent exposure, openings and any local consultant notes relevant to review.

Coordination workflow

Move from buyer need to a controlled technical brief.

  1. 01

    Identify the controlling source

Start from the client, consultant or authority document rather than a copied web value.

  2. 02

    Normalize names and units

Record every value with its label, unit, source and date so different conventions are not silently mixed.

  3. 03

    Separate confirmed and pending inputs

Keep unknown criteria visible and assign a confirmation owner instead of hiding them inside a proposal assumption.

  4. 04

    Submit one coordinated design basis

Issue the reviewed input register with the building geometry and operating requirements for technical work.

Expected review output

Make the next engineering discussion more specific.

  • A site and authority identification record
  • A source-tagged wind, snow and seismic input register
  • A list of terrain, topography and building-context questions
  • A visible confirmation owner for every unresolved criterion

Frequently asked questions

Keep each decision conditional and project-specific.

Can Ganyo use only the project country?+

The country is a starting point, not a complete design basis. Provide the exact location and available authority or consultant information.

What if snow does not occur at the site?+

Record the project source for that conclusion. Do not leave the snow field blank without a review status.

Can values from two codes be combined?+

Not without an approved engineering basis. Preserve each source and let the responsible engineer resolve the controlling criteria.

Should the building dimensions be included with the site data?+

Yes. Location criteria and building geometry are reviewed together, so the input package should include both.

Prepare the project discussion

Send the source of each value, not only the value itself.

Include the exact location, governing document, units, available site notes and a clear list of criteria that still need confirmation.
